The Colorado Springs Police Department will accept applications all year for police academies that will start every 15 weeks. After applying for the position of Police Recruit or Police Lateral Recruit, you will immediately receive information about the online written examination and oral boards.

Sworn Careers
- Submit Application
Human Resources reviews your application for minimum qualifications
- Applicant Testing
Written Examination - Pass the written examination with a 69% or higher and move on to the next step. The written exam will be worth 30% of a candidates total score.
- Video Based Interview
Candidates will answer structured questions through a video. These interviews will be scored and will be 70% of the candidates total score.
- Employment List
Based on a candidates total score, they will be placed on to the banded employment list. Bands A - F will move forward to the Background Investigation.
- Physical Readiness Test
- Background Investigation
Candidates will participate in a background investigation that includes a polygraph examination, psychological testing and interview, a medical evaluation, and fingerprinting.
- Training Academy
The Training Academy typically runs for 28 weeks. Recruits and Lateral Officers must attend the full 28-week Training Academy.
